ASEAN has made significant progress since 2007, with the formal establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) finally coming to pass in December, 2015. Over the years, we have seen ICT play an important role in connecting people and transforming businesses with changing consumer demographics. As ASEAN sets sights on a competitive, innovative, and dynamic AEC 2025 and IT continues to weave itself into the fabric of global communities and economies, an integral area of focal point for the future will be the creation of Smart Cities across the 10 member nations – a Smart ASEAN.
This is where ASEAN ICT Masterplan 2020 (AIM 2020) comes in. Introducing remodelled measures including ‘Economic Transformation, People Integration and Empowerment through ICT, Innovation and Human Capital Development’, the latest 5-year blueprint looks to build on the progress AIM 2015 made in laying the foundations for a Smart ASEAN.
Being the bridge between ASEAN policy-makers and the CIO community, ACIOA is in a strong position to promote IT development and adoption and unite the efforts of the ICT circle towards areas of critical value to a data-driven society.
