Energy
The Energy sector is the source of the economy’s and society’s lifeblood. The transport industry requires fuel, and electricity supplied feeds all types of businesses and households across the economy. The need for power is critical in social sectors like healthcare and food and agriculture where the health and well-being of citizens are at stake.
The industry comprises of 5 overlapping subsectors:
- Electricity, generation customarily comes from the combustion of coal and natural gases
- Petroleum, undergoes fractional distillation to give different fuels like diesel and kerosene
- Natural gas
- Coal
- Renewable energy, uses non-polluting sources of energy like solar power and the wind to generate electricity
The substantial dependence on energy and fuels by almost every other industry puts the energy sector in a position where ensuring assets are not compromised both physically and in the cyberspace is of the utmost importance.
